This was my first time shooting a fashion show. It was put on by North Carolina State University, the College of Design, and College of Textiles at the Reynolds Colosseum in Raleigh, NC. I enjoyed it, but I not totally please with my results. I didn't arrive with enough time to get prepared and acclimated to my surroundings. It all ran very quickly and before I realized it, I was in frantic do-or-die mode.
And While a had a very good camera kit (on-loan from Widner Creative), This is the first I've shot with a D2x at an event and I was not familiar with some of its image and color settings. I also decided early on to not exceed 400ISO, so even wide open I had a lot of blurry images to contend with. I attempted to incorporate slaved flashes which had mixed results.
I also found myself focusing too much on extreme focal lengths. I ended up shooting most everything very wide angle or very telephoto. And with each model, I tended to focus on them personally and their faces as apposed to their full outfits. I was able to go anywhere within the venue, some I should have camped fairly close and stuck with the 28-70mm.
But, lessons learned. I will be a lot more comfortable and prepared at the next show.
I shot with my F2 as well on a roll of 800-push Tri-X and 1600-push Delta, which I have yet to process. Those images will be up sometime next week.
